The ups and downs of being a parent. Warning to all non parents, you may find this post annoying.
What's REAL life like with a toddler? It's not always rainbows and unicorns. You
wake up at the crack of dawn, change(holy moly diapers are fun at this stage), feed, and play with them while you are chugging as much coffee as you can. Eat something if they allow (my kid is awesome playing by himself so I'm lucky here. I know others aren't so much..) Chase after the quickest 25 pound 2 footer while they throw toys, cars, whatever in your path while wobbling everywhere as you have your hands around them to catch the falls. Have you ever watched a mom with a baby just learning to walk? It's funny. The arm movements and gasp. We are at this stage now. This whole chasing thing has become a fun game for him. Next, cook lunch for them while they throw your yummy, slaved, over meal all over the walls or to the dogs. Is it really nap time? Oh thank you!! Now its time to re pick up what the tornado left. Wake up, eat a snack, and back to chasing and dodging toys. Adult life? Spare time around this joint is spent sleeping or trying to make our house a little less gross. Sound fun? Trust me it really is. Those snotty nose kisses and hugs are worth every tiring second. Parents complain. It's what we do to vent. We are tired, and want a second of adult life back. There is nothing wrong with venting. My friend ,Kelli, gets texts often where we swap stories! The good part is usually left out when describing the day. We usually just send millions of pictures to document the good parts. Hearing new words and seeing them figure out something new is priceless. It seems that each stage we enter is the "best". It just gets better and better. Playing outside and feeling those tiny fingers grab your hand and say mama will get you every time. Hayden is at a funny stage where he copies you, so imagine what his daddy and paw paw have him doing. Our crazy life is far from perfect, but we think its pretty darn close.
Here are a few baby items we have used that I highly recommend to new moms:
(Any toddler things you can share please do!)
-Nap nanny or rock n play
-Sleep sacks
-Aiden and anais blankets for swaddling
-Gas drops ( like by the case)
-Noise machine or the free app on phone
-Wonder weeks app. It was ways right on for us.
-What to expect app. It's great to read those boards during all night feelings.
-Cute night clothes! Like ones where guest that drop by don't mind. It's amazing after they are born how long you live in pj's.
-Good size diaper bag
-Diaper genie
-Scentsy newborn nursery or some type of light scent near the diaper pail.
-Mesh feeders with frozen fruit in it for teething. Teething is the devil.
-Video monitor
-Angel care monitor
-Baby swing
-Exersaucer
-Have a never say never attitude because things you judged others pre kids or said you'd never do, you will.
As a new mom it's hard not to worry about being the mom with that kid running around in church, or having a melt down in the grocery store right when its time to check out. It happens to all of us. Oh yea, you people that sit in places with your nose stuck up at us because we brought our kid out to eat, gasp!! Get over yourself. You can't become chained to your house when you have kids. We have to see sunlight some. You'd be surprised at the looks we've gotten at restaurants around here and Hayden is actually good most of the time.
Parenthood is a huge step in life. It's amazing though. It's a stage we yearned for many years to experience, so I am in no way ungrateful for this amazing gift from God. He was prayed for many years and just perfect.
So welcome to life with a toddler; The good, the bad, and the ugly.
